Brooke is an amazing professor who is dedicated to both her students and her field. Despite the fact that the homework load is low, she expects students to put in their best effort. If you have any questions about an assignment, or simply want to bounce ideas around, she is readily available. While she seems to be a tough grader, it is actually quite helpful because you come out of the class with a firm grasp on how to write a good paper.

Basically, she made what was supposed to be the most tedious class in psychology a pleasure to attend. Take any classes you can from her!

She is absolutely wonderful and I love her as a teacher. She has a great teaching style, and even though intro to psych is mainly lecture, I feel like she still tries to make it interactive.

Homework load is low, the tests aren't too bad, and the application paper was enjoyable.

although it may seem nice to have little work in this class, the few assignments we did have were graded hard so there was no way to improve grades if you did not do things her way on the first assignment. Every form of assignment was only done once so there was no way to use the comments on how to improve and do the paper her way to improve your writing or your grade. There was little information presented in this class that was beyond common sense of how to run a research project. When you asked for advice on the papers she was near useless, even if you brought in drafts.

Brooke is amazing. She is pationate about her field and really familiar with the material. She does a good job of integrating examples to illustrate concepts she's explaining. Brooke is charming and very funny, and makes class a joy.

Brooke is really good at making class interesting. Her lectures are upbeat and interactive, and she is certainly good at explaining things. I ended up having a really bad experience in this class, though, because of her testing style. Watch out! She is extremely unspecific about what will be on the test and each of her tests cover SIX chapters. So, essentially, EVERYTHING from the 6 chapters is stuff you have to know in order to do well. If she had more than 3 huge tests and made studying for them manageable, I know more people would have liked her class. No one likes studying for six-seven hours for a single test...

Brooke is an excellent teacher. She uses powerpoints to cover the material in the book. Almost every class you will have a discusssion and almost every third class there will be an activity.

The work load isn't bad, the reading takes about 1-2 hours a night depending on the chapter and the papers are fairly easy to right and are spread out over the entire semester. Brooke grades her tests fairly hard but she grades the papers more leniently.

As you will learn in Pyschology though... online reviews and surveys are biased, the people who fill them out are typically polarized. They will either love the teacher or despise them, it all depends on their experience and in this case, the grade they got in the class.

I also can't recommend Brooke enough. She knows the material, does a great job of explaining it, is incredibly friendly, and clearly wanted all of us to do well.

The homework for this class wasn't bad at all because the intro psych textbook she picked was very readable and interesting. It incorporated a lot of interactive examples and applied the material to daily life. Other homework included a few readings off of ereserves, two 2-page research critiques discussing an experimental writeup, and 1 5-page application paper looking at any topic from any one of the psychological perspectives learned in class. I felt that The grading was very fair, although others in the class complained that it was too hard.

There were 3 non-comprehensive midterms for the class, and no final (although the 3rd midterm was taken during the finals time slot). Each included multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and short answers. Brooke gave out review questions for each test, and also incorporated some into the beginning of class.

Class was mainly lecture, and the lectures were almost always accompanied by powerpoints. They were organized and covered all of the necessary material. Also, Brooke used lots of interactive activities to keep the class engaging and illustrate what she was teaching. These included memory tests, optical illusions, and much more.

Brooke really wanted people to do well in her class. She was always available to read over papers or answer questions, and she created several extra credit opportunities toward the end of the semester. She is also incredibly sweet and the type of teacher who knew all of our names by the second class and brought in extra halloween candy for us. You will learn a lot and have a great time in this class, just be sure to do the (fairly easy & quick) reading.

Social Stigma

I honestly can't recommend Brooke enough. She's intelligent, well-spoken, cares about her students and her area of expertise (social psychology).

Class organization: We read articles for every class, then discussed/debated them in class. Eight 1-2 page thought papers, four 3 page "homeworks" (responding to a prompt), and one 10 page paper on a topic of our choice, relating it to the stigma theories studied in class and presenting it.

Brooke was an invaluable resource, both in class discussions (which she never tried to dominate, but never held back from participating when she had information that would help our discussion, nor did she ever let conversation fall dead) and outside of class, when she was always available to talk about thought papers, homework assignments, or the big paper we had.

Knows her stuff, is not stuck up about it, and will make you excited about the topic too!
