John does a wonderful job of challenging his students to think critically. Sometimes he can be a little over-the-top, but he knows and admits it if that makes it any better. This course has made me "grow" more than any other at Whitman. Definitely a good course to take.

He is interested in his material and provides lots of fun little stories from his past. He's not scared to make light of himself and it's generally both fun and intriguing to be in his class.

The reading journals that he assigns daily are a bit of a drag, though perhaps in the future they will seem as useful as he claims. The inflexibility of his portfolio system and reading journals are really my only criticism, and they're not THAT big of a deal.

Give him a try-- he's a fun prof.
